Rook’s Play Area Update

This week is just a quick update on how the new play area is working out. It’s been a week since we changed things around and everyone seems very pleased. The first real test came on Wednesday. We had three different games going on in the store at the same time. World of Warcraft was using three different tables. Then, Chad and Curtis showed up and wanted to play Warhammer on a table. Finally, a group of about 7 people came in to play Battletech roleplaying. We had all the tables full but it still seemed spacious. Sara and I didn’t really need to move anything around to accommodate everyone.

Friday Night Magic was our next test. We had 18 people for our FNM tournament. We can have 27 people without moving anything around so the 18 wasn’t a huge problem. It was nice to have everybody spread out. Also, we didn’t have to have anybody in the front of the store. This should make it more appealing for general customers who come into the store.

I wasn’t at the store for Saturday Warhammer but I heard good things about it. We should be able to have 5 Warhammer tables going at one time. This will accommodate 10+ plus players. In addition we will still have one six foot table for other people to play games on.

Hopefully last week was a good indication of how well our new space is going to work. The big challenge now is getting our retail space in order. There is still work to do on that end. I need to organize board games and Flames of War. I also have some space where the D&D and Star Wars minis were. Overall I think condensing the retail space is going to be a good thing. It forces us to take a harder look at what products are doing well.
